Europeans definitely have it right when it comes to holidays. Despite the fact that most europeans are not at all religious, the entire continent gets Good Friday and Easter Monday off of work. Tim and I arrived in Prague late on Easter Sunday and since the next day was also a holiday (and Tim didn't have school), we spent the day wandering around Old Town. The easter festival was in full swing in old town square with vendor booths, food, drink, musical performances and huge Easter trees.
A rather, um, unique Czech Easter tradition is for men to beat (not viciously, my expat guidebook informs) women with whips made from willow sticks on Easter Monday. The men are then rewarded for this task with painted eggs or plum brandy. Alternatively (or additionally) women can be thrown into cold water, preferably a stream. I can emphatically state that this will not be an Easter tradition at the Jenson house...if Tim knows what's good for him, anyway.
